Hello creative people,
This week, your love of words is requested. I’m starting with “Once upon a time”. Add the next sentence, then someone else will add another sentence, and so on.
No theme, just have fun. Write whatever you feel is right (humor welcome!) but please, don’t make it too hard for the next person. Leave your sentence in the comment box, and I’ll include it in the story as we go along. Writers, aspiring writers, non-writers, anyone can play as many times as you wish.
With kind permission from Jill Noble, I’ll post the completed story on Noble Romance Author’s blog, along with the list of all participants.
So, let’s see who’s creative!
Update: Thank you all for this wonderful story, I’m glad you had a good time.
Once upon a time, Cindy came to a great fallen tree, too high to climb over. So, she decided she must find a way around it, but how? This was the largest tree she had ever seen. She walked alongside the tree trunk standing in the thick, dark forest. To her surprise, she came across what appeared to be a gnome door imbedded in the tree. She turned the knob and stepped through the portal into a cabin with a fire burning in the hearth and a man bent over the stove, stirring something in the pot. What was that? It all looked menacing.
Wisps of steamy vapor bubbled innocently from the dark frothy liquid, stretching across the room for her nose, gently sedating her as the room faded into darkness. Dreams of dark magic, grimacing faces, and death himself, haunted her as she lay incapacitated. What was to become of her… Darkness? In her dreams, she saw herself more beautiful than she was. Hair billowed around her like cotton candy, her skin did not show the years of labor she’d spent in the sun, hands were clear of the ugly blisters and callouses that were a constant reminder of servitude.
And then it shook her -power unlike anything she’d ever felt- louder than a herd of clamoring horses, it rattled her, sharper than a thousand bolts of lightning zinging through her body, her limbs, awakening each nerve ending in rapid-fire secession. No, this couldn’t be real! Opening her eyes, she looked over her shoulder. She wondered how long it would take for her powers to course through her burgeoning body, filling her with knowledge beyond her years, with magical abilities that would assist her in her efforts to battle the evil snake-gnomes, and with the psychic insight to seek them out wherever they hid their slithery little bodies. With the powers she needed to defeat them, suddenly energy like nothing else gripped her.
Standing close enough to touch, to taste was the man with ebony black curls and eyes so luminous they drank in her soul. Her mind and body cried out ‘you will never have me’. But even as her physical being denied him, her soul beckoned him to come closer. His breath on her neck was nearly more than she could handle. She felt his warm, gentle hands upon her shoulders, sliding down to caress her arms, and then slowly venturing to her hips where she sensed him pause just long enough to listen for the moan that rose up from her very soul to find its way to his attentive ears. Drawing her around to face him, he brought his large hands over her breasts, squeezing firmly with just a hint of pain. She was his now, there was no escape.
Cindy’s resolve began to crumble with each bulging inch of his body that her eyes passed on their way to meet his deep sapphire eyes, for she knew that once she saw the desire that glistened there, she would be lost forever. She felt his breath against her neck, warm tingles sending a shiver down her spine. He whispered ‘You’re mine, my love forever’. As she opened her mouth to answer, he swooped down and captured her lips. Not a slow buildup, but a carnal kiss she had never experienced.
A heavy mist surrounded them as they descended into the slick, dense bed of ferns, their minds possessed by the all-consuming need to satisfy their human hunger. But as Trevor’s fingers danced tantalizingly upon her beckoning bare skin, Cindy felt a cold, slithering hand upon her ankle, a sensation that caused her to tremble with trepidation despite the burning kisses that scorched a blazing path to her very core. She screamed. Swift and instinctive, Trevor sank his dagger into the slimy, writhing snake-thing.
Why would he save her, protect her? As if reading her mind, he said “My sweet, I protect what is mine”. Looking into eyes of obsidian, she knew her life would never be the same. With him, her powers were stronger. She could feel everything around her, and she was more aware of Trevor than ever before. Yet while he scooped her into his sinewy arms and carried her deeper into the forest, she wondered why she needed magical powers when she had him to protect her.
